Your Choice of Hue On A Suit
Sunday, March 29th, 2009When it comes to suits, most men have no idea what does and doesn’t look good - so how do they decide what color to choose? Perhaps fortunately, the vast majority of suits are made in only three colors: Black, Dark Grey, and Dark Blue.
Black is the most preferred shade, be it work place or a place of prayer. But, when worn with the appropriate shirt, one may appear unbelievably immaculate and modern in a party or a get together.
Dark Grey is most suited for business owing to its commanding look. A shirt of any shade will compliment this suit.
Dark (Navy) Blue has a tendency to look a bit ordinary. You tend to merge in a gathering in a Navy Blue suit, which may or may not be to your liking. But, it is good enough for any occasion. In case you have a light complexion, it would be advisable to wear dark-hued shirt.
Other Colors. Brown has rarely been considered a suitable color suit for the business world. Men’s suits in brown are usually reserved for social wear along with tweed jackets etc.
White can look fantastic in the correct setting or occasion (think Tom Hanks in the movie “Big”). However, the words “correct setting or occasion” cannot be emphasized enough, so think carefully. As such, purchasing a white suit somewhat limits it’s usefulness.
Grey Suits in lighter hue are best suited for summers or when the weather is a bit stuffy. They look fine with any light colored shirt, if you do not have a fair complexion. Darker shirts would go well with fair men.
So you really need to take a few factors into consideration when deciding what color is best. Decide when you will be wearing the suit. Is it mainly for business or social use. Does it suit my complexion and do I wish to stand out and be noticed, blend in or hide?
You had better remember, irrespective of what shade suit you want, you have to take pride in your selection. Looking good makes you feel confident. But to feel good you have to be told you look good. Hence, give a thought to taking someone along with you for a straightforward impression. When I wanted to purchase a suit, I asked my wife to accompany me. No sooner did I try a suit I wanted to purchase, she immediately REALIZED it was a good selection. Try it. It should be just the right place to commence.
